FAGD requirements, in plain terms

Fellowship takes 500 hours of continuing education, but the number is the easy part. The rules about which hours count, and how many of each kind, are where most people lose track. Here is the whole picture.

The requirements

  • 500 hrsTotal continuing education from PACE or CERP approved providers, earned as an AGD member.
  • 350 hrsMinimum that must be live course attendance.
  • 150 hrsMaximum that may come from self-instruction.
  • 150 hrsMaximum from teaching and publication combined.
  • 150 hrsMaximum in any one of the 16 subject areas.
  • 3 yearsContinuous active AGD membership by December 31 of the application year.
  • ExamPass the Fellowship Exam, then attend Convocation within three years.

Common questions

How many hours do you need for FAGD?

500 hours of continuing education from PACE or CERP approved providers, earned as an AGD member.

How many hours must be live?

At least 350 of the 500 hours must be live course attendance. No more than 150 may be self-instruction.

How long do you have to be a member?

Three continuous years of active AGD membership by December 31 of the year you apply.

Do hours from before I joined count?

No. Hours count only from your assigned credit start date, which the AGD sets based on the month you joined.

Is there an exam?

Yes. You must pass the AGD Fellowship Exam, and then attend Convocation within three years of approval.
